Tea and Textiles in north Hertfordshire

We had a very interesting and enjoyable time looking at lace and having cake and tea at Marian's home. As you can see we really enjoyed ourselves.

Suzanne brought lace that she is making for us to see. Several of us have lace and Suzanne was able to identify it for us and tell us about its construction.

Members brought brought their work and we had a very good display. This is Marian's.

And this is June's work.

We had Lorna from 'Threads and Things', she bought some lovely things for us to buy. So all together a very enjoyable afternoon.

Show and Tell at Sara's

Although I have no photos to show you - I just wanted to post a short report on today's Essex event when a few ERTF members met at Sara Impey's house. Although the group was small, it meant we really got to talk about the work we had brought. Seeing work on a wall in an exhibition is good, but hearing the story behind something is really so much more exciting.

So busy talking we never went to look at the local Coggeshall lace exhibitions.

Hopefully another meeting in the area can be arranged soon but if not we have Hornchurch in November to look forward to.

Special thanks to Sara for opening her house to us all. And thanks to all who attended for making it a really good day.

Hemingford Grey

Today, eight Cambridgeshire ERTF members and friends had a fabulous day out in the beautiful village of Hemingford Grey.

We visited The Manor, an amazing house dating back to the early 12th century , home to the children's author Lucy Boston and the setting for Lucy's Green Knowe books. The house is now lived in by her daughter-in-law Diana.

We spent time in the gardens, the more diligent among us sketching the beautiful trees and flowers, the rest of us just chatting. There were particularly stunning displays of irises all over the garden.

After a picnic lunch we were given an entertaining tour of the house by Diana where we got to see the amazing collection of patchworks made by Lucy during the winter evenings.

The day felt like a real treat and thanks must go to Jacky Glyde for organising it. The next Cambs region outing is to see an exhibition by Nolitex in Lincoln. Please see the website for details.
