Essex Goes To London

Chris Spencer, Essex Rep, organised a visit to Stuff That Matters at Raven's Row Art Gallery in The City. Interesting exhibition but lacked information and content for me - labels often read "Italian? 16 Century? Piece of ?" very informative! However, great day out, Spitafields well worth the visit and good to spend time with ERTF members.

Suffolk Textile Art exhibition March

TAGS [Textile Art Group Suffolk] www.tags.org.uk has put up an exhibition at Woodbridge Library for the month of March.

Work varies from hand stitching, painted canvases, woven tapestry, hand made paper art to more traditional forms of embroidery.

Members have also made Artists Directories, each page, includes a sample, for each artist.

There are 20 in the group, so 4 each makes quite a lot for Sale.

Members made the original stitched book covers, so the books are all individual and show various techniques.

These four below are mine, pop along and see others that are even more accomplished!

It's a lovely light little library, [with parking] and anyone belonging to a Suffolk library can take a book out there and return it to their own library.

Woodbridge is always worth a visit too.

Membership News

Good news - renewal of your membership from 1st March 2012 until 31st April 2013 is COMING DOWN...................the cost will be £20 for a year instead of the current £27.50. We hope this goes a little way to helping in these tough economical times.

We have also REDUCED the price of our conferences - last November it was reduced to £35 from £40 and April's conference is fixed at the same price, £35 for members. If 40 members attend the conference we just about cover our costs at this price.

Learn to Knit in Chelmsford

Another successful day at Chelmsford led by Essex member, Juliet Bryson. Thankfully Juliet's mum, Maureen, also came to help as we had complete novices - so basically it was one-to-one tution to get them casting on - most mastered cast on, knit, purl and cast off in the three hours. It was humbling to remember how difficult it is to learn a completely new skill when you have no idea what you are meant to me doing! They all showed great patience and determination. Thanks ladies and to Juliet and her mum.

FINAL WEEKS
Call for entries to Summer Exhibition 2012
Until 9 March 2012
Don’t miss your last chance to enter this year’s Summer Exhibition.
The Summer Exhibition is selected and hung by an annually rotating committee of Royal Academicians, all of whom are practising artists and architects.
Tess Jaray RA is this year’s Exhibition Co-ordinator: ‘In contrast to some of the very large works that are currently exhibited in museums worldwide, this year we shall be focusing upon, and celebrating, works of a more modest size.’
